Install guide
Every player in the session does these steps. It takes about five minutes.
Easiest: the launcher
The launcher installs the mod, turns on script mods and starts the game for you. Windows may say the app is unrecognised - click More info, then Run anyway. Online play needs a token from Patreon sign-in; LAN play is free.
Prefer doing it by hand? Download S4OM.ts4script and follow the steps below. Checksums: SHA256SUMS.txt
Before you start
- Windows PC with The Sims 4 installed and updated to the latest patch.
- Everyone in the session should have the same expansion, game and stuff packs.
- Back up your save. Go to
Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\savesand copy the folder somewhere safe.
1. Put the mod in your Mods folder
Copy S4OM.ts4script into:
Put it directly in Mods or one folder down. Script mods placed deeper than that don't load.
2. Turn on script mods
- Start The Sims 4.
- Open Game Options, then Other.
- Tick Enable Custom Content and Mods and Script Mods Allowed.
- Quit and restart the game. The settings only apply after a restart.
3. Check it loaded
After the game starts with mods on, this file appears in your Mods folder:
Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Mods\mp_debug.logIf it's there, S4OM loaded. If it isn't, go back to step 2.
4. Allow it through the firewall
The first time you host or join, Windows may ask whether to allow The Sims 4 on the network. Click Allow, otherwise friends can't connect.
Problems
- Mods stopped working after a game update. Each Sims patch turns script mods off. Turn them back on in step 2, then check #patch-status on Discord to see whether S4OM works with the new patch yet.
- Friends can't connect. Check the firewall prompt in step 4. On the free LAN version you must be on the same network, or the host has to forward the port.
- Something else broke. Post in #bug-reports on Discord and attach your
mp_debug.log.
